Thursday Jan 06, 2022
The Salvation Army at Chalk Farm in Camden Town, London have been operating the homeless drop-in for many years now. Providing food, access to shower facilities and advice to people experiencing homelessness.
Many facilities had to close during the pandemic, however, The Salvation Army was able to remain open actively to serve their neighbors in need.
The ministry through Chalk Farm is a beautiful example of faith in action.

Nourishing Neighbors Program Gives Grant to Salvation Army
Tuesday Jan 04, 2022
Tuesday Jan 04, 2022
The Salvation Army recently received a grant for just over $230,000 from Nourishing Neighbors. The grant was made possible by generous customers who visited Jewel-Osco stores throughout the Chicagoland area during September and donated at checkout to help provide healthy breakfasts for children.
As the charitable partner for these Jewel-Osco locations, The Salvation Army is pleased to receive all of the funds collected from customers during the fundraiser. These funds will be to support the Army’s youth feeding programs.
Some of those meals will be distributed through the Head Start and Early Head Start programs, which provide children from low-income families with at least one third of their daily meals, as well as a healthy snack.
These funds will also support the more than 25 food pantries The Salvation Army operates throughout the greater Chicagoland area, 19 of them in the same neighborhoods as Jewel-Osco stores that generated these funds. These panties provide shelf-stable items, breads, cereals, dairy, meat, and occasional treats on a weekly or monthly basis.

Turning Point

Tuesday Dec 28, 2021
When you give to The Salvation Army this holiday season, your donation helps make sure that Hope Marches On. One of the many Salvation Army programs that ensures Hope Marches On for all who encounter it is Turning Point Programs.
Serving West Michigan since 1973, Turning Point offers detoxification, short-term residential, and outpatient programs.
Turning Point is unique in that it serves any and everyone who has substance abuse concerns and does not discriminate based on a patient’s funding source.
“What many people in the general community don’t know is how often patients or clients are denied service, even in mental health, due to having Medicaid or no insurance,” said Jason Boeve, Turning Point Programs Director.
“Many times, those that need the most assistance are turned away. But at Turning Point and The Salvation Army, our mission is focused on helping anyone, especially those that are in the most need and highest risk.”

Chicago Food Depository
Tuesday Dec 21, 2021
Tuesday Dec 21, 2021
The Chicago Bears, The Salvation Army, and the Greater Chicago Food Depository recently teamed up to tackle hunger in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood, a community known as a food desert. The Bears Neighborhood Pantry, the first of three events planned on Chicago’s south and west sides this winter, has already benefited many in the area.
Seeking to help their neighbors, these three organizations partnered to create one-day, market-style food pantries. Personal shoppers helped clients choose from a selection of fresh meats and locally grown produce, as well as canned goods, bread, milk, flowers, and more.
“The timing of this program is vital as food insecurity is distinctly felt at the holidays when a meal is about more than just food – it's about family, togetherness, and celebration.
The next Bears Neighborhood Pantry will be on January 7 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at The Salvation Army Harbor Light Corps Community Center in West Humboldt Park (825 N. Christiana Avenue, Chicago). Learn more at salarmychicago.org/bearspantry.

Red Kettle Challenge
Thursday Dec 16, 2021
Thursday Dec 16, 2021
In late November, Commissioner Kenneth Hodder, national commander for The Salvation Army, announced the 2021 Red Kettle Challenge, aiming to raise more than one million dollars in a single four-hour period.
On Friday, December 3rd, 117 locations across the United States participated in the challenge, ultimately raising $1,107,300.90 in just four hours.
In response, Commissioner Hodder stated,
"What an incredible impact all of this is going to have on the people that The Salvation Army serves in the United States,
God bless each and every one of you for participating, and for all of the work that you are doing right now. And thank you to all who are coming alongside The Salvation Army in this great work of serving neighbors in need. Together, we will ensure this year that hope marches on."
The winner of the challenge is The Salvation Army of Nashville, Tennessee, raising $276,252. These funds will support local programming for families in need right in the communities where the dollars are raised, helping to ensure that hope marches on. Please consider reaching out to your local Salvation Army to see how you can get involved in your own community.

The Salvation Army Celebrates 30th Anniversary in Russia
Tuesday Dec 14, 2021
Tuesday Dec 14, 2021
GENERAL Brian Peddle and Commissioner Rosalie Peddle (World President of Women’s Ministries) were guest leaders as The Salvation Army celebrated the 30th anniversary of work restarting in Russia after the fall of the Communist regime.
The international leaders remained in London and shared online but officers, soldiers, friends and volunteers were delighted to have the opportunity to get together – at a location around 20 miles outside of Moscow – and celebrate the anniversary of The Salvation Army returning to Russia.
There were times of reminiscence but also a focus on today’s needs and consideration of the places where The Salvation Army might raise its flag in the future.
The meetings focused on a theme from the General’s Call to Mission – ‘Be Ready’, ‘Be Engaged’ and ‘Take Responsibility’.

The Salvation Army Named One of America’s Favorite Charities
Tuesday Dec 07, 2021
Tuesday Dec 07, 2021
The Salvation Army is one of America’s favorite charities, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy’s 2021 report. The organization secured the second spot out of 100 charities.
The Chronicle of Philanthropy’s annual ranking evaluates data from financial statements to determine which cause-driven organizations earned the most cash and stock contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
During 2020, The Salvation Army saw a more than 30% increase in fundraising in the wake of extraordinary circumstances and devastating need.
The Salvation Army has not stopped working to provide help and hope — no matter the cost — for more than 22 months since the pandemic began. This year, it estimates it will need $175 million — almost 50% more than raised in Red Kettles in 2020 — to help keep Americans in their homes this holiday season and beyond.
Every donation helps hope march on for those in need, and all gifts stay within the community in which they are given. Visit SalvationArmyUSA.org to donate or learn more.
