PepsiCo and Salvation Army Partner to Help Jackson Mississippi Residents
Thursday Sep 08, 2022
Thursday Sep 08, 2022
The Salvation Army continues its commitment to ‘Doing the Most Good’ by partnering with PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation to host a food and water distribution event at McLeod Elementary School for Jackson residents with limited access to the city’s water distribution sites.
Following the near failure of the city’s largest water treatment facility last week, thousands in the community already homebound or with limited access to transportation were out of options to secure drinking water and other necessities for their families.
PepsiCo, the PepsiCo Foundation, and PepsiCo local bottling partner, Brown Bottling Group, stepped in to donate 14,000 shelf-stable ‘Food for Good’ meals and 15,000 cases of bottled water for individuals unable to access the city distribution sites as well as children impacted by school closures.
PepsiCo and Brown Bottling Group company employees served with Salvation Army staff and volunteers in the Labor Day event to distribute food, water, and hygiene kits to community residents.

Motorcycle enthusiasts from across Indiana were invited to ride in the inaugural "Stands Up for Recovery" ride on Saturday, August 20th. Organized by Renegade Recovery, the ride began and ended at The Salvation Army Harbor Light Center in Indianapolis. Proceeds from the event funded need-based scholarships for those seeking addiction treatment at the Harbor Light Center.
Renegade Recovery was founded in January 2020 by Maston Willis as a clean and sober motorcycle group focused on recovery outreach fellowship. Its membership continues to grow and includes those who live 100% alcohol and drug free, those in recovery, and those who have lost loved ones to overdose.
Since Renegade Recovery's inception, Willis has worked closely with Harbor Light staff to get those seeking treatment into the program with the help of funds raised by the group.
The Salvation Army Harbor Light Center helped 927 men and women last year in their fight to break the bonds of addiction.

The Salvation Army Is Providing Meals to Those In Need On Miami’s Streets
Thursday Sep 01, 2022
Thursday Sep 01, 2022
In an effort to replicate the same impact made at Miami Area Command to the surrounding community, Lunch and Love was developed by David Jenett, Case Worker and Emergency Disaster Services Coordinator.
With the use of the FedEx Cares Emergency Disaster Services Canteen, David and his team were able to serve 150 meals and 50 snack packs to people experiencing homelessness located within the Government Center and North Miami area of Miami-Dade.
David had one thought in mind: it’s necessary and it’s impactful,
-Not everyone is able to migrate to the church so, why not bring the assistance to them? Despite the rainy conditions, the team dedicated nearly four hours of service, with the assistance of Terrance McCray and Susi Goihman.
A day filled with love, service, and gratitude would not have been possible without them and their efforts were a big success.
The program will take place once a month throughout Miami-Dade, with the goal of becoming a regular service. The team hopes to make Lunch and Love a bi-weekly effort.

Christmas In July Toy Drive a Success

Tuesday Aug 30, 2022
The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary’s Christmas in July toy drive and fundraiser was a resounding success, with more than 75 guests bearing gifts of toys and clothing. The happy hour event, held in July at the Dolphin Bar & Shrimp House in Jensen Beach, netted more than $2500 and brought in over 250 new toys and clothes for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Christmas Assistance Program.
The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program provides new toys and clothes to up to 1600 children in low-income households in the central Florida area every year.
In November, The Salvation Army posts Angel Trees at malls and various businesses, encouraging the community to “adopt” the children and purchase toys and clothing for them. The donations from this event will help fill the wishes for the few who aren’t adopted.
Registration for the Angel Tree program opens in October. For more information about the Angel Tree program and other services provided by the Salvation Army, visit https://saangeltree.org/

Rochester, IN Food Drive
Thursday Aug 18, 2022
Thursday Aug 18, 2022
In partnership with the Evangel United Methodist Church, The Salvation Army of Rochester Indiana ran a food drive in which they received over $17,000 worth of food donations.
The hope is that the donations will keep the foodbank in downtown Rochester stocked with nonperishable food items through to the end of 2022.
The Salvation Army in Rochester will not be hosting any more food drives like this until 2023 due to a lack of storage, with the belief that the donations they have already received, in addition to monetary and perishable food donations, will maintain the foodbank’s operations for the remainder of the year.
If you or a loved one is in need of assistance from a food pantry, the Rochester, Indiana location is at 1637 Sweetgum Road.

Inman Coffee
Tuesday Aug 16, 2022
Tuesday Aug 16, 2022
How does your local church interact with your community? In the college town of Cleveland, Tennessee, The Salvation Army’s primary point of contact with students and residents of the town is a coffee house adjacent to the church. Owned and operated by The Salvation Army of Cleveland, Inman Coffee is a shop that prioritizes ministry over profits.
It started when Joel and Cheryl Rogers moved into town and decided to go to church at The Salvation Army. When their pastor asked them how they wanted to serve, they recalled their experience running a coffee house with their former church in North Carolina.
Joel and Cheryl felt that the coffee house model was the best way to reach youth and young adults in Cleveland. The community didn’t need another traditional youth program or college ministry.
So, they pitched their coffee house idea and before long, the team found a new building that could serve as a church, a coffee house, and a community and social services center; everything separate, but connected.

Recovery Efforts Continue After Kentucky Floods
Thursday Aug 11, 2022
Thursday Aug 11, 2022
The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services are still responding to catastrophic floods, landslides, and mudslides in eastern Kentucky, caused by multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms on July 27th.
At least 37 people have died, and hundreds of homes and businesses have been lost to the flash floods, with further rainfall anticipated for the region.
Several counties have been affected by the flooding and many roads have become impassible, with multiple mudslides making travel dangerous. Water systems and pumping stations have been negatively affected and many are without water.
Divisional Commander, Thomas Louden said, ‘It’s not just the property loss, it’s the loss of life, and that impacts everybody. The Salvation Army is trained in spiritual and emotional care, and we will be alongside our people in eastern Kentucky for as long as need be.’

Salvation Army Health Resource Center
Tuesday Aug 09, 2022
Tuesday Aug 09, 2022
The Salvation Army Miami Area Command has recently partnered with the Dunspaugh-Dalton Foundation to provide increased healthcare to clients within the community. Their recent donation has assisted in helping provide care for those served at The Salvation Army Health Resource Center.
Three out of four of the uninsured population are in poverty. The lack of insurance results in individuals foregoing preventative care. Those in need are more likely to wait until their health conditions are severe before taking action and pursuing medical attention.
In 2019, the Salvation Army announced the grand opening of the Health Resource Center. With the assistance of community partners, the Health Resource Center was made possible and continues to be a vital medical access point for the residents within the shelter.
