The Salvation Army Kroc Centers

Tuesday Feb 28, 2023
The Salvation Army Kroc Centers are a network of state-of-the-art community centers located throughout the US. Most Kroc centers feature everything from swimming pools and weight training, to after school youth programs and even a worship center.
Joan Kroc, wife of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc, said that she took a tour of San Diego and it was then that she recognized a community that was in desperate need of a safe gathering place, a place with facilities and trained professionals to nurture children’s social skills, arts appreciation and athletic potential. She described The Kroc Center as being a beacon of light and hope in the community.
Mrs. Kroc entrusted The Salvation Army with $90 million to build the first Kroc Center in the Rolando neighborhood of San Diego. She was so pleased with what was accomplished here that she left $1.5 billion to The Salvation Army to build centers like this across the country. Today, there are 26 Kroc Centers nationwide.

The Salvation Army Offering Personal Lockers to Those Without Homes
Tuesday Feb 07, 2023
Tuesday Feb 07, 2023
The Salvation Army of Cleveland, Tennessee has started a new initiative to support their friends in the community struggling with homelessness.
Outdoor, weatherproof lockers have been installed to the backside of The Salvation Army’s building. Offering a safe, weatherproof place for the local community to store their belongings.
When it rains, their sleeping bags are often ruined. Backpacks get stolen containing important documents like ID’s and birth certificates. The hope is that these lockers will keep their belongings safe and dry- and save The Salvation Army money by not replacing sleeping bags and documents multiple times a year.
Anyone in the community without a home can request a locker- at which point an agreement is signed.
As of now, there are 20 lockers with plans to expand.

The Salvation Army, Dunkin’ Partner in the Fight Against Childhood Hunger
Tuesday Jan 31, 2023
Tuesday Jan 31, 2023
The Midwest Chapter of the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation made a big statement Monday, joining The Salvation Army in the fight against childhood hunger. A $10,000 grant was awarded to The Salvation Army to help fund the many Salvation Army food programs across the Chicagoland area.
As many people across the state continue to struggle with the ongoing impacts of inflation, the pandemic, and interest rate hikes, the number of food-insecure households has doubled since the start of the pandemic. And worse, food insecurity has tripled for families with children.
The mission of the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation is to provide joy to kids battling hunger or illness, who believes impact is felt most at the local level. That’s where The Salvation Army aims to make a difference by delivering nutritious food and fresh produce and ensuring no child ever goes hungry on the streets of Chicago.
