Briarwood Family Residence
According to the Coalition for the homeless, in New York City, the homeless population is 67 percent higher than a decade ago, while the number of homeless single adults is 142 percent higher.
The Briarwood Family Residence is a Salvation Army shelter located in Jamaica New York that offers support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
The primary goal for anyone entering Briarwood is to return back to the community independently by being able to sustain themselves in a healthy way.
The program team is intentional about creating a safe and fun environment for the children while their parents focus on next steps in their journey. Every family is referred to Care for the Homeless which is on site two days a week, giving Covid assistance and information. Housing and employment specialists also come alongside families to help residents with their needs.
